Thoughts On Top Flite BOMB Golf Balls

These balls are sound like a perfect match for golfers with slower swing speeds (mid 90’s and below) to gain yards off the tee. Due to the forgiveness with golfers who typically slice or hook the ball, I think this ball is a great match for mid to high handicappers. Do note that there were a handful of low handicappers between 0 and 5 that said to have played thier best round with them. I say these Top Flite are worth giving a try. A lot of people, myself included, don’t give Top Flite balls a chance and will pass them right up to buy a box of Pro-VI for 3 times the cost. After researching the performance, I am going to give the Top Flite BOMB golf balls a chance and see if they really live up to what seems to be a hype of the newly converted Top Flite fans.

The History Of Top Flite Golf Company

Anyone who has played a significant amount of golf since 1971, whether it be golf balls, clubs, or other accessories, will be familiar with the Top Flite brand.

Given the brand’s history, the topic of whether they still make golf balls and who makes Top Flite golf balls emerges.

According to Top Flite’s history, the company began in 1971, when it introduced the first Top Flite branded golf ball while operating under the Spalding name. In the history of golf, Top Flite introduced the first two-piece and multi-layered golf balls.

After a slew of ownership changes, including a leveraged purchase by a private equity group, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts took over Top Flite in 1996, and the company hit rough waters until Callaway came to the rescue in 2003, when it needed to apply for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Callaway gained access to Top Flite’s intellectual property and golf ball production facilities, as well as other brands such as Strata and Ben Hogan.

After nearly a decade, Callaway finally parted ways with the Top Flite brand in 2012, when it sold it to Dick’s Sporting Goods. Callaway kept the Strata brand and the golf ball production facilities in Chicopee, Massachusetts, as part of the purchase agreement.

Top Flite, with the help of Dick’s Sporting Goods, is attempting to revitalize the brand by launching new golf clubs and golf balls on a regular basis.

The following are some of the most popular Top Flite golf balls:
The Top-Flite XL Distance Yellow Golf Ball is a two-piece design that maximizes distance on every shot, especially those off the tee. This is aided by the company’s Distance Dimple Technology, which allows for quick ball speed off the clubface and a high launch angle.

This ball is designed with a High Resiliency Core and a cut-resistant Ionomer cover to optimize compression for longer shots.

Because of its yellow cover, this ball is one of the easiest to track in flight.

The Top-Flite XL 7000 Super Straight ball uses  the distance dimple aerodynamics and Slickote coating that reduces spin rate, Super Straight golf balls deliver a similar distance to the XL Distance with a straighter ball flight.

Their Top-Flite XL 7000  Super Soft golf balls have a core that helps golfers hit it long and straight.  The softer feel of the XL 7000 range comes from the low compression, giving you more control on and around the green.

The ionomer cover of the Top FLite XL 7000 Super Long golf balls produces less spin than the Super Soft, allowing for additional distance off the tee.

Top-Flite The Gamer V2 golf balls have the same 3-piece performance as the original Gamer, but with greater distance and feel around the green. The softer feel has no effect on durability.

Top flite has experienced a significant shift from the pioneering firm that introduced the world to the first 2-piece and multi-layered golf balls. From the mid-1990s until the early 2000s, the company was beset by financial difficulties, which Callaway used to develop a stranglehold in the golf ball market before selling it to Dick’s Sporting Goods.
